Sturgill Simpson - You Can Have the Crown / Some Days

franknbeats:

Taking a left turn from my usual beat, I recently interviewed country singer and fellow Kentucky native Sturgill Simpson, whose new album Metamodern Sounds In Country Music turned out to be the soundtrack of my summer. The way he integrated psych-rock and Motown production into traditional country on this album is one of the most inventive turns in the genre I’ve heard in years. Interestingly enough, this is also the first album Simpson recorded after he got sober last year. In our interview, I was privileged to hear him reveal the story of a profound experience with mushrooms that led to this transformation prior to the recording of the album.
