Country Boys
I found a great deal on the dvd set of the Frontline Documentary Country Boys online, so I went ahead and treated myself to it.  I’ve already seen the six-hour show twice, but I cannot get these young men’s lives out of my fascination. I’m considering talking to a professor about a tutorial focused on this doc and the David School that they attend. The culture is so rich in the...

A Must-See
I watched the Drive-By Truckers’ documentary, The Secret to a Happy Ending, last week and I NEED to see it again.  It covered all their albums up to Brighter Than Creation’s Dark.  I think they need to do a documentary based solely on Southern Rock Opera; I would love to hear commentary on all of those tracks. [Also, if I ever meet Patterson Hood, I’m gonna ask why they...

From a Cooley interview with Las Vegas Weekly
In the website commentary for Southern Rock Opera, [co-founder] Patterson Hood says that “Zip City” is “at least 90 percent true,” and that further explanation should be left to you. So? The feeling behind it’s true; some of the meaner things I said are not. I’ve always felt sorta bad about that (laughs). I wrote it a long time ago, and it never occurred to me that it would ever get back to the...
